Angel Kitty Miracle Story - Ballerina to the rescue
Nala gave birth to 5 healthy kittens on May 19, 2004. The birth was a
difficult one for Nala as she is a little older now.
When the kittens were 5 days old Nala started not eating well and the vet put her on antibiotics and sub Q fluids as she
needed strength to nurse 5 kittens and was a little dehydrated.
The day the kittens turned 9 days old they were going from nipple to nipple and crying.
Nala's milk was not replenishing.
The vet put Nala on a stronger antibiotic and suggested taking the kittens away from her so she could gain her strength and recover.
What to do with 5 hungry kittens that are 9 days old.
Ballerina, mother of Miss Wings, her only surviving kitten, had been mated a week after Nala in hopes of delivering a live kitten. Ballerina had
recently delivered with no survivors but she had milk.
Ballerina was more then willing to take over as "mom" to her mother's kittens, her brothers and sisters.
Ballerina finally has the kittens she has so longed for. The kittens are thriving with Ballerina
now and Nala is recovering wonderfully.
Once Nala is fully recovered she will be reunited with her kittens but Ballerina is now their full time mom. Nala will be the assistant mom.
Prayers to the angels were answered again. Specials prayers were answered by St. Philomena, the patron saint of a happy birth.
Flyers from the Padre Pio Foundations are received frequently with the last one including a beautiful picture of St. Philomena. That picture of St. Philomena was framed and put in Nala's room just prior to her delivery.
St. Theresa, who brings forth strength and endurance, answered prayers that were needed for endurance to supplement the 5 kittens every 6 hours while waiting for Ballerina's milk to come in full strength. Both of these saints are mentioned in George Anderson's books "Lessons from the Light".
St. Francis of Assisi was also called upon as he is the Patron Saint of all Animals. Angels that tend to newborn pets were also called upon in this much needed situation. Much thanks to all of them.
Ballerina is one special angel kitty. Her life is surrounded with angels and miracles as are the kittens in her home. Miracles can and do happen. Expect them.
This story is worth sharing with all the readers of this site and future owners. Each of these kittens are destined for a special someone and the angels are here to see that they make it to their destined new homes.
Below are pictures of Ballerina nursing her mother Nala's 5 kittens at 12 days old. Ballerina treats them as if they were her own. Miss Wings was a very lucky kitty to have had Ballerina as her very own mom.

Update at 2 1/2 weeks old. Ballerina is taking wonderful care of all 5 kittens. They are thriving and only need supplementing every 12 hours now to help her out.
Nala has returned to her old self and fully recovered. Nala has been reunited with her kittens and cleans them as Ballerina nurses them. See pictures below of both Mama's and the 5 kittens at 2 1/2 weeks old.

Update at 3 1/2 weeks. The two moms and kittens were in a cardboard box for warmth and safety. This proved to be too warm for them all with Boston's temperature heating up.
All were moved into a larger screened in box for more room and air circulation. Unfortunately that situation only lasted 3 days as Ballerina's milk was not replenishing fast enough to fortify all 5 kittens as quickly as they needed it.
Ballerina is given sub Q fluids on a daily basis now to help hydrate her for more milk production. The kittens are being supplemented every 8 hours and they have also been offered baby food meat.
The 5 kittens lick the baby food meat off a spoon and manage to eat an entire jar every day now. Supplementing with KMR (kitten milk replacement) in liquid form is also given to them 3 times a day by eye dropper. Ballerina is now being given KMR to drink to help boost her milk flow and enrich it.
Ever see a mama bird feeding her young with their mouths wide open? Picture 5 kittens sitting their waiting their turn at the eye dropper to get their milk. While one is being eye dropped another is licking the eye dropper while another is licking the drippings from his siblings chin.
It is the most precious and rewarding experience one can have. All 5 kittens are doing wonderfully now. They have free run of the room that they are in with both mamas to allow them the use of the litter box now that they are eating.
It must be told that this is the first time witnessed that a kitten has used the litter box so young. Ziti was the first and she has used it twice so far to do her duty. Amazing what they will do so young. Ziti will lead the way and show the others how to use it. After all she was the first one born.
Pictures below of the beginning of the week in the screened in box and then the later part of the week with them running freely with both moms. Taking these pictures of 5 kittens running around was not an easy task.

Update at 4 1/2 weeks. Everything is going well. Ballerina's milk seems to have come in enough to keep the 5 kittens full. She is getting the sub Q fluids daily and drinking the KMR liquid twice daily. Those two fluids have increased her milk flow to a sufficient level.
The girls are licking baby food meat from a dish. The boys have not got that licked just yet as they still like to be "spoon fed". Boys will be boys! They are growing nicely and getting around quite well now. Nursing is the big attraction as the pictures tell.

Update at 6 weeks. This litter is on track now. Ballerina's milk has finally come in and Nala is completely well and gained all her weight back. The kittens are eating wet food on their own and getting into mischief as kittens will do.
Updates will no longer be necessary. There are many pictures above to show how big the kittens have gotten and how handsome and cute they have become. Thank you for your interest in watching this litter progress. The Angels did their handy work again. Thank you Angels. ^i^
